Waiting for Coverage to Start

Here’s what you can do before your ID card arrives.

All set with your health plan coverage but it’s not active yet? Here’s a handy guide for what you can do while you’re waiting for your coverage start date to help you get the most out of your plan from the very start.

Check the mail.

Watch for your health plan ID card to arrive in the mail.

Once you have your ID card, you can activate your online account. Here, you can find network doctors, compare costs, see what’s covered, view claim details and account balances – all in one easy spot.

Go mobile.

Get the free Health4Me® app so you can get mobile access to health information, generate a digital ID card, use the mapping tool to find care and more.

Explore your network.

Browse the provider directory to get an idea of which doctors, clinics and hospitals are in your network.

Choose a doctor.

Choose a primary care provider (PCP) so you’ll have one main doctor who has an in-depth knowledge of your health.

Set an appointment.

Plan ahead by scheduling an appointment with your PCP before your coverage starts. Just remember that the appointment date must be after your coverage effective date. Most UnitedHealthcare plans pay 100 percent of the cost of certain preventive care services with a network provider, so it's a good idea to get an appointment on the calendar.
